The Rock
Sometimes called "Stone",
the Rock is beginners' favourite move. Cartoon hero Bart Simpson
says "Good ol' `Rock'. Nuthin' beats that!" and it's indeed what
a lot of people tend to think.
-
But What Is Rock?
- Rock symbolizes physical strength, steadiness.
It's viewed as a reliable move, a solid affirmation of one's will.
"Rock Players" (players who throw Rock with a greater than 40% frequency)
can be compared to warriors (think "Conan the Barbarian"). They favour
strength over intelligence. This doesn't mean they're easy to beat, unless
they throw Rock with a bigger than 50% frequency. Their willpower often
frightens frail players, who will thus be weaker against them.
- How To Defeat It
- There's only one way to beat a Rock: throw a Paper!
- Rock Openings
- Rock is the most common opening, especially among inexperienced
players. It once (in the late 60s) was a wiser bet than now, when Scissors
openings were en vogue. Nowadays Paper is a much safer opening.
In tournaments, playing a lot of Rocks is a good way to make your opponent
think you're not a dangerous opponent, and thus can give you an advantage over him.
